Oh wow, am I mad now

I was just told on another message board that since my beliefs were irrelevant, I should just keep them to myself. The thread topic was basically, "how do you teach your children about other beliefs different than your own" A debate started about tolerance, and what that meant...someone was afraid tolerance meant acceptance of that belief, and she refused to be tolerant. I replied with,

"To me, tolerance in this realm comes down to this, you don't tell my kids they're going to hell, and I won't tell your kids there is no god. We should all be happy with that and not worry about what other people believe..."

And her response, in part, was "You have nothing instructing you to do so, nor do you have any significance in sharing or not sharing your beliefs. You shouldn't compare the two because they're completely different."

I have no significance in sharing my belief? What about global warming and the fact that those who deny science think that it's an act of god and will gladly let us burn up because that's in The Plan? Holy shit-sherlock!!!

I don't know what I expect here...I just needed a safe place to vent where I was reasonably assured people would understand my dismay.

This attitude is what bothers me the most about many moderate believers. There's this weird idea that if you don't believe in god, you should just sit down, shut up and let the loony fundamentalists get their way because what they believe somehow has more "meaning". People don't seem to understand that the more we allow religious beliefs to prevent advancements science, the more damage we do.
